I
saw unmistakeable fire at the base of unit #3.
The
fire glowed yellow and occasionally flames were distinguishable.
Commentators
at Enenews believe the fires around 3 may be from the fuel rods
that were dispersed in that unit's massive explosion.
There
also seems to be fires near unit 4.
Today
Enenews and Fukushima Diary are reporting a significant cesium
spike in Fukushima:

We
are in unprecedented territory as the melt-throughs continue.
The
status of the spent fuel pool in unit 4 is not clear; although
many commentators believe it is on the verge of collapsing,
if it has not already collapsed.
How
much radiation can be released by this mega-disaster and what
are the consequences going to be from this unprecedented and
apparently unmitigated catastrophe?

Thyroid cancer cases on the rise, say specialists — “There

researchers unsure why thyroid cancer cases on the rise

The Indianapolis Star (USATODAY), Author:Shari Rudavsky, Date:

National
Cancer Institute statistics suggest that in recent years the
number of cases of this often curable cancer has increased
by about 6.5%. Over a decade, that has added up to make thyroid
cancer the fastest-increasing cancer, says Tod Huntley, an
otolaryngologist and head and neck surgeon with the Center
for Ear, Nose, Throat and Allergy in Indianapolis.
“Ten
years ago, if I saw four new thyroid cancer patients a year,
it would have been a lot,” says G. Irene Minor, a radiation
oncologist with Indiana University Health Central Indiana
Cancer Center. “Now sometimes I see that many in a month,
and I have seen three in a week.” [...]
A
recent study showed that the increase is not just in smaller
tumors, which might have to do with detection, but also in
larger ones, Huntley says.
“There
is definitely something going on,” he says. “How
much is due to increased surveillance and detection and how
much is due to an actual biological change in disease prevalence,
we don’t know, but we know it’s both.” [...]

is “new” cesium. Cesium 134 has a half-life of 2

provides us more evidence that average radiation levels are
going up in the US and that we are being exposed to levels that
are high compared to our pre-Fukushima "typical" exposure
levels.
I've seen the same trend in Phoenix and other cities in the
US. I'm sure the same holds for Canada (but data are not available).
I
cannot imagine what is happening in Japan. I'm so sorry for
the people there. I wish I could help.
We
(some more than others) are now being exposed to increased and
persistent levels of ionizing radiation, including radionuclides
that are not found in nature.
Fukushima
radiation is accumulating and the plant is still spewing.
The
level accumulating in our environment is low only when compared
to a nuclear bomb detonating right over our heads.
Low
level radiation does not just cause cancer.
Low
level radiation weakens the body, particularly if radionuclides
are inhaled or ingested.
Radionuclides
in the body cause damage to DNA and RNA. The body has to repair
damaged DNA/RNA.
Your
body can become overwhelmed if ingested or inhaled radionuclides
continuously bombard your body with gamma rays and electrons
as the radionuclides decay.
Each
of us has distinct vulnerabilities based on our age, our gender,
our general standard of health, and a variety of other variables.
Under
the best of conditions, lack of adequate nutrition can undermine
your body's ability to repair damage caused by "normal"
background radiation and other environmental contaminants.
Under
the best of conditions, lack of adequate sleep can undermine
your body's ability to repair damaged caused by "normal"
background radiation and other environmental contaminants.
If
your health is not optimal, you may begin to feel effects if
your exposure to this ionizing radiation is prolonged.
Now
is a good time to improve your diet, increase your sleep, and
limit or stop activities like smoking.
Over
the last 3 weeks I've lost a LOT of hair (evident in my vacuum
cleaner roller), 1/2 of two fingernails (thumb nails), and have
had 2 crowns literally fall out of my mouth (and had a 3rd repaired
because of a new crack).
I
can only hope that these events are coincidental and do not
derive from some ongoing assault against my health....

Greens
say Health Canada failed to reveal radioactivity in rainwater
Source:
The Nelson Daily, Date: 18 Jan 2012
The
Green Party of Canada said despite public concern over fallout
from the nuclear disaster in Fukushima, Health Canada failed
to report higher than normal radioactive iodine levels in
rainwater.
The
Greens have been calling for Canada to increase transparency
around possible radioactive contamination in the wake of the
Fukushima nuclear disaster. [...]
It
has now been revealed that data were not released from a Calgary
Health Canada monitoring station detecting levels of radioactive
iodine in rainwater well above the Canadian guideline for
drinking water.
Lower
levels of contamination resulted in a don’t-drink-rainwater
advisory in Virginia. [...]

* “We were worried that this important information
would not reach the public and unfortunately, it looks as
if we were right”
* “Serious questions are arising about how Health Canada
tests for radiation, and why it has failed to properly alert
the public”
* “We find out now that monitoring appears inadequate,
Health Canada data does not agree with that from independent
researchers, and no information is making its way to the public”
* “In effect, Health Canada has not allowed Canadians
to take any preventative steps to reduce our exposure to this
radiation”
* “We now ask, what changes will be implemented to restore
public trust in our health regulators?”

Radiation Spreads Worldwide by WashingtonsBlog
California, Finland, Canada, Australia Hit By Radiation
The
University of California at Berkeley detected cesium
levels in San Francisco area milk above over EPA limits
… and even higher than they were 6 months ago.
Finnish
public television says that cesium from Fukushima has been detected
in lichens, fungi and elk and reindeer meat in Finland.
The
Australian Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety Agency confirmed
a radiation cloud over the East Coast of Australia.
The
West Coast of Canada is getting hit by debris from Japan …
and at
least some of it is likely radioactive.
The
authors of the controversial study claiming 14,000 deaths in
the U.S. so far from Fukushima are now upping
their figure to 20,000. I spoke with nuclear health expert
Chris Busby about their study, and he said that mortality figures
fluctuate pretty substantially in the normal course, and so
it is hard to know at this point one way or the other whether
their figures are accurate.
And
while there is no evidence linking them to Fukushima, Bed Bath
and Beyond has recalled radioactive
tissue holders after they set off police radiation monitors
aboard a delivery truck This may just be an example of the incredibly
lax handling of radioactive materials.
And
thyroid cancers are – mysteriously – on
the rise in the U.S.
But
don’t worry: The owner of the Fukushima plant has the
plant in cold
shutdown, so everything is “under control” …
Although temperatures have apparently jumped
inside Fukushima’s number 2 reactor, and the Japanese
have no idea where the nuclear fuel has gone, so they are drilling
a hole into the containment vessel to try to find it.
