2011-09-25 Preventing Another Explosion..., majiasblog.blogspot.com.
Preventing another explosion at Fukushima has been key to the success of the narrative that the plant is "under control" and that radiation releases are "small."
There are many reasons this narrative is false.
First, radiation releases at the plant have not been small, despite public pronouncements. Please see my post here for details http://majiasblog.blogspot.com/2011/09/more-propaganda-sep-23.html
Second, the plant is not under control and there is very strong evidence that the cores of at least 1 reactor and maybe more have melted through all containment and are now fissioning under ground.
http://majiasblog.blogspot.com/2011/08/video-fukushima-is-china-syndrome.html
http://majiasblog.blogspot.com/2011/05/fukushima-summary.html
Third, the absence of an explosion does not equate with a stable or even, necessarily with a less-hazardous radiation environment. Radiation is being released daily and the tent being built at the plant will loft that radiation higher, which will help plant workers but likely increase jet stream contamination. http://majiasblog.blogspot.com/2011/08/new-fairewinds-video_22.html
These reasons demonstrate the fraud at the heart of the narrative that no explosion means everything is under control.
However, we are creatures of conditioning and we tend to believe that all is fine so long as everything looks relatively normal. The normalcy bias is presently quite strong because we cannot "see" radiation and because its effects take years to be detected.
Tepco has done everything it can to ensure that their narrative of normalcy and control survives. Nitrogen was injected into unit 3 over the summer to prevent another hydrogen explosion. So far that move was (and perhaps continues to be) successful.
Tepco must be very worried about the hydrogen now accumulating in reactor #1, as reported by Enenews http://enenews.com/asahi-explosive-hydrogen-may-be-coming-from-melted-fuel-rods-and-accumulating-near-the-top-of-the-containment-vessel-without-being-driven-out
Enenews was reporting on a story published by Asahi: Hydrogen accumulates in pipes at Fukushima's No. 1 reactor
Asahi reports: "Hydrogen has accumulated to a level higher than previously thought in pipes connected to the No. 1 reactor containment vessel at the Fukushima No. 1 nuclear power plant, the plant's operator said Sept. 23...
"An explosion can occur in a gas containing more than 4 percent hydrogen and more than 5 percent oxygen....
"TEPCO has been pumping nitrogen into the No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3 reactor containment vessels to drive out hydrogen from their interiors. The injection of nitrogen is also intended to create higher pressure levels than those outside to prevent oxygen in the air from entering the containment vessels.'.." http://ajw.asahi.com/article/0311disaster/fukushima/AJ2011092411943
Majia here: The possibility of another explosion must make Tepco and governments all over the northern hemisphere quake because an explosion will reveal--disclose--the fraud that has been foisted upon the global public.
The fraud is the lie that all is controlled at Fukushima and that releases are "small."
Ok so my guess is that another explosion will not occur so long as it is humanly possible to prevent one because too many careers and too much corporate money are at stake.
Yet, the public needs to be awakened. The public needs to discard their normalcy blinders. Although the radiation released will not kill most of its victims quickly (those outside of Japan), Fukushima radiation will bio-accumulate and slowly kill and maim across generations, just like Chernobyl did and continues to do.
And unlike Chernobyl, Fukushima has been releasing large amounts of radiation for months, unchecked by containment.
2011-09-26 On Radiation Released..., majiasblog.blogspot.com
"Asahi is reporting on the amount of radiation released for Cesium and Iodine-131. However, I do not believe these numbers because it is very difficult to know with certainty how much radiation was (is still) released over the LAST 6 MONTHS in air and water.
Plus, the Japanese government has a vested interest in keeping totals low enough that the numbers look survivable.
I think everyone should read the Fukushima Diary post I just linked.
http://fukushima-diary.com/2011/09/column-why-japanese-government-is-telling-us-lies/
Anyway here is the Ashai story: "Fukushima accident released far more cesium than Hiroshima bombing" August 27 http://ajw.asahi.com/article/0311disaster/fukushima/AJ201108278044
"The radioactive cesium-137 released by the accident at the Fukushima No. 1 nuclear power plant was about 168.5 times the amount emitted by the Hiroshima atomic bomb, according to documents released on Aug. 26 by the Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency (NISA).
"The amount of iodine-131 was 2.5 times that released at Hiroshima, the same documents said.
"However, a NISA official said it was not possible to make a "simple comparison of effects" based on the amount of radiation emitted...."
MAJIA HERE: All these efforts to quantify the radiation released reflect the human desire to impose order on the catastrophe and to reduce uncertainty by having a model that allows humans to calculate the various "risk scenarios."
However, to reiterate, the truth is that the amount of radiation released is probably impossible to calculate and it grows daily because the plant continues to spew.
Hirose Takashi wrote (2010) Genshiro Jigen Bakudan – Daijishin ni Obieru Nihonretto (Nuclear Reactor Time Bomb – The Japanese Archipelago under the Danger of Great Earthquakes) (Diamond).
There is an interview with Taksahi available here at the Asia Pacific Journal http://japanfocus.org/-Hirose-Takashi/3606
Takashi is quoted describing the disaster scenario he envisioned as threatening Japan in his 2010 book:
“If you ask, “Will Japan still be here in ten years?” I have the evil foreboding that the answer might be, “There is a very strong chance that it will not” . . . . In the future there awaits an unknowable, vast dark age. I don’t want to contemplate its form, but it is the fear of a genpatsu shinsai syndrome brought about by movements of the earth that no human knowledge can control"
Takashi's fear that an earthquake would lead to nuclear meltdowns has been realized. Now he remarks on the normalcy bias that afflicts the Japanese people in the wake of this mega-disaster:
He writes: "even though now that the genpatsu shinsai syndrome has actually occurred, the people of Japan seem not to have grasped the nature of the crisis. Unbelievably, though anyone who looks can see that the situation is getting worse day by day, television and the other media keep repeating “there is no crisis”, “There’s nothing to worry about” over and over, and show no inclination to report the critical nature of what is happening at Fukushima Daiichi....
In the past, on television only scholars who are proponents of nuclear power have given commentary as “experts”. We listened to them telling their fantastic lies and offering their impossibly optimistic predictions, and as a result the people, having been given none of the facts, have gone on living as normal right up to the edge of the collapse. Now everything the “experts” told us has proved wrong, and the worst has happened...
Majia Here: Our unwillingness to confront reality enables elites to succeed with their lies. We all will suffer as a result.

Asahi: "Ministry sets radiation levels requiring decontamination"
"The Environment Ministry will decontaminate areas with an estimated annual dose of 5 millisieverts or more from the accident at the Fukushima No. 1 nuclear plant, which the government will shoulder as its burden in cleaning up the mess.
All the areas recording 5 millisieverts or more are in Fukushima Prefecture and encompass 1,778 square kilometers, or 13 percent of the prefecture's area.
"Five millisieverts in an annual dose is equivalent to about 1 microsievert per hour based on the assumption that people spend eight hours outdoors and the rest of the time indoors...."
MAJIA HERE: (1 microsievert an hour) 24 hours X 365 days = 8.760 MILLISIEVERTS A YEAR!
The Japanese are ARBITRARILY reducing the level by saying that people don't spend all of their time outside so the total exposure is less than 8.7 millisieverts and voila it is 5 millisieverts a year.
THIS IS NOT JUST ARBITRARY, IT IS CRIMINAL.
Arnie Gunderson of Fairewinds pointed out that people's HOUSES TEND TO GET MORE CONTAMINATED THAN OUTSIDE because people track radioactive contamination into their houses with their clothes, shoes, hair, etc. To reiterate, houses become more contaminated over time than outside areas.
FURTHERMORE, this entire calcaulation FAILS TO ADDRESS EXPOSURE TO INTERNAL EMITTERS that occurs as the Japanese (and North Americans) inadvertantly inhale and ingest radionuclides in their air, rice, water, vegetables, etc.
THIS IS CRIMINAL!

Majia here: This level is NOT acceptable. 1 Microsievert an hour equals 8.76 millisieverts a year. This level is about 8 X higher than what is safe for kids.
Asahi News writes:
"In mountainous areas of Gunma Prefecture, where accumulated cesium amounts were quite large, the radiation levels were 0.5 to 1.0 microsieverts per hour. In other areas of the prefecture, the radiation levels were less than 0.5 microsieverts.

2011-09-30 (for this date) Radiation Cover-up in Japan: Prof. Frank Daulton: Radiation 500 Km From Fukushima Is Ten Times Higher Than What The Japanese Government Claims. Oct 2, 2011
Full article here: Japan’s 3/11 Radiation Refugees (Earthfiles, Sep. 30, 2011):

‘We in Otsu-City, Shiga Prefecture, 311 miles (500 km) from Fukushima, are seeing readings around 0.15 microsieverts on average, which is around five times what the Japanese government is reporting. My wife and children will leave Japan as early as possible because I perceive a growing exodus will come and it might become hard to place kids in schools.’
- Frank Daulton, Ph.D., Applied Linguistics, Ryukoku Univ., Kyoto, Japan

September 30, 2011 Otsu-City, Shiga Prefecture, not far from Kyoto, Japan – Fukushima Prefecture (top red circle) where TEPCO nuclear power plants exploded and melted down after the March 11, 2011, magnitude 9.1 earthquake and giant tsunami east of Sendai. The distance from Fukushima southwest to Kyoto and Shiga Prefectures (lower red circle) is 500 kilometers (311 miles). Even with the 500-kilometer-distance from Fukushima, one concerned university professor in September 2011 near Kyoto is measuring ground radiation where he lives in Otsu-City, Shiga Prefecture, at around .4 microsieverts/hour. That is at least ten times higher than the 0.03 microsieverts/hour background level the Japanese government asserts. That misinformation, the professor says, is because the Japanese government is afraid to tell the truth.

Dear Linda,

I need to report on the cover-up involving nuclear contamination throughout Japan. I have been conducting measurements and experiments near my home in Western Japan, more than 500 kilometers from Fukushima (in Shiga Prefecture). I have found the local soil to be quite and undeniably contaminated. Even ambient radiation levels are around five times government data.
However, there is no acknowledgement from the government or media of this situation. The average citizen has no idea of the dangers, and therefore, takes no precautions.
The only way to understand how the government can present false data showing absolutely no effect of Fukushima in Western Japan — knowing that some day the lie will become apparent — is that things are far worse than anyone has imagined. Indeed in Japan, one does not tell someone with cancer that he/she has cancer; it may ‘upset’ them too much. I think, in the future, we will be given a similar excuse for the current cover-up.
I am writing a paper on the situation and my measures to alleviate the radiation on my property. I have four small children, who I plan to send abroad early next year. They will be among the first of many ‘radiation refugees’.
As an American Missouri journalism student, I had experience as a science/environment reporter. And my brother, with whom I consult, is a research physicist at Washington University in St. Louis. My data is good. I’m happy to share (or discuss) it with you.
Best regards,
Frank E. Daulton (PhD)

Asahi: Water at 3 Fukushima reactors under 100 degrees for first time

"Water temperatures in the pressure vessels of three reactors at the Fukushima nuclear plant were all below 100 degrees for the first time since the crisis started, Tokyo Electric Power Co
"Achieving water temperatures below 100 degrees at all reactors of the Fukushima No. 1 nuclear power plant is one of the required conditions for a stable state known as "cold shutdown."
"However, further action is needed to prevent radioactive substances from spreading from the reactors, eliminate the dangers of hydrogen explosions and mitigate other potential risks."
This story would almost be funny if it wasn't so tragically awfull. The story reveals the lie at its heart. The third sentence tells all and contradicts the optimism of the first two sentences.

2011-10-01 Breaking News: Recriticality may be happening continuously by Iori Mochizuki, fukushima-diary.com.
In addition to two previous posts on this issue:”Fukushima went back to recriticality almost for 100%” and “Fukushima in recriticality” it turns out that they also detected I-131 in North and Western Japan.
1) in Miyagi.

* 42 Bq/kg – 8/9/2011
* 41 Bq/kg – 9/6/2011

2) In Nagasaki

* 563 Bq/kg – 8/4/2011
* 151 Bq/kg – 8/11/2011
* 44 Bq/kg – 8/22/2011

When it comes to the detection of I-131, some people always try to deny the possibility of recriticality to reassure themselves by bringing up the possibility of medical usage of Iodine.
However, in a previous post, Breaking News: Fukushima went back to recriticality almost for 100%, the possibility of the medical usage of Iodine was completely denied by asking the local hospitals.
From all the data,it is possible to think Fukushima still goes into the state of recriticality on and off

2011-10-01 THE POLITICS OF RADIATION MAPS, majiasblog.blogspot.com
MAJIA HERE: These radiation maps are very political. It is very easy to manipulate radiation measurements.
Measurements can be manipulated by only measuring 2 kinds of radiation contamination (e.g., Cesium-137 and Iodine-131) and deliberately ignoring the presence of other forms of radiation contamination (e.g., plutonium).
Measurements can (and have) also been manipulated by locating the measurement devices meters above the ground, rather than locating the devices a few centimeters above the ground, where accumulation exists.
Measurements can also be manipulated by outright fraud and deceit.
The maps are political for obvious reasons. That is why all of these map findings need to questioned in relation to the following questions:
Who measured and what vested interests might they have?
What was measured? That is, what forms of radiation were actually being measured?
How were measurements actually taken? Where did sampling occur? How high was the measurement device placed?
Finally, what agency or individual put the map together and what vested interests do they represent?
With these questions in mind, let us examine the latest radiation map discussed in the Japanese press.
Asahi: Radiation spread reaches Chiba, Saitama prefectures
http://www.asahi.com/english/TKY201109300393.html
[Excerpted] "Fairly high levels of accumulated radioactive cesium in Chiba and Saitama prefectures were shown in a new contamination map released by the science ministry on Sept. 29.
The two prefectures, neighboring the municipal areas of Tokyo, are located about 200 kilometers from the disabled Fukushima No. 1 nuclear power plant. The measurements for Chiba and Saitama prefectures were taken from Sept. 8 to Sept. 12 using helicopters.
In Chiba Prefecture, the highest levels of cesium-137, between 30,000 and 60,000 becquerels per square meter, were detected in northern areas, such as Kashiwa, Matsudo, Abiko and Nagareyama. Cesium-137 has a half-life of 30 years.
In Saitama Prefecture, some mountainous areas of Chichibu, located 250 km from the plant, recorded 30,000 to 60,000 becquerels per square meter.
In the 1986 Chernobyl nuclear accident, areas with 37,000 becquerels or more of radioactivity per square meter were designated contaminated zones, while levels of 555,000 becquerels or more required forcible relocation..."
MAJIA HERE: I've posted recently on the funny business involved with designations of contaminated areas by the Japanese government
http://majiasblog.blogspot.com/2011/09/what.html

http://majiasblog.blogspot.com/2011/09/jcast-readings-25-times-lower-than.html

There is also a new concern that the maps being generated DO NOT INCORPORATE READINGS FROM PLUTONIUM AND STRONTIUM but rather are based on Cesium and radioactive Iodine.
Strontium and plutonoum are now being "found" but I don't believe these findings are incorporated into the maps;
http://enenews.com/strontium-found-80-km-fukushima-plant-15-bqm-plutonium-239-240-minamisoma-map

Blogger Ex-SKF has a post about a map produced by a Japanese professor.
http://ex-skf.blogspot.com/2011/09/prof-yukio-hayakawa-radiation.html
His map is available here
http://gunma.zamurai.jp/pub/2011/route930.pdf
No doubt there are other maps that represent contamination differently.
Although the truth of the degree of radiation contamination is difficult to ascertain at this point in time, it is imperative that Japanese citizens ask the questions I've outlined above when evaluating their personal safety in regard to radiation contamination.

2011-09-29 Low Dose Radiation and Public Health: Asthma, majiasblog.blogspot.com.
I've noticed a very interesting correlation between my asthma and our beta radiation levels as reported by the EPA for Phoenix.
Every time for the past 5 months that my asthma has kicked in there has been a corresponding spike in radiation in Phoenix (where I live).
The power of suggestion is not operative here because I've not been checking our radiation levels in Phoenix daily.
Recently I've only checked when my asthma kicks in and, when it does, I see a corresponding spike in our beta levels
http://blog.alexanderhiggins.com/net2/Phoenix-AZ-Real-Time-US-Radiation-Monitoring-Graph.aspx
I feel good this morning after really suffering early in the week. I've had my hepa filter running continuously. Check out the levels.
It is possible that higher levels of ionizing radiation are contributing to, or correlate with, other atmospheric factors, such as high ozone (a known asthma trigger), that are producing the asthma-exacerbating conditions.
I just don't know, but i find the certain correlation very interesting.
Enenews is reporting on a story from Fukushima Diary that is disturbing because it means we will be seeing more high levels (higher even than what we currently have).
It appears from the web cam that there was a fire in the spent fuel pool #4 on Sep 29 after the earthquake Saturday
